How we met...
One fateful day Chris and Carolyn's brother Dave decided to live in the same apartment on Beacon Hill. Chris and Carolyn met at their first house party (Rock Stars and Groupies theme). It was love at first sight but then we didn't see each other for nearly two months. We re-met at another party where Chris gave Carolyn a great excuse to give him her email address: he wanted to send her the picture (at right) taken a few hours after we met.

Our first date...
Our first date was not really a date at all. We had been emailing for two weeks since re-meeting and decided to see each other again in person. Carolyn chose the least romantic place of which she could possibly think: the starbucks inside Barnes and Noble in Kenmore Square which has all the charm of a high school cafeteria. After 15 minutes we decided to walk around the city for a bit. It was the middle of winter, quite chilly and Chris was breaking in new boots for his climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro in a few weeks. Six hours later, Carolyn dropped Chris off at his apartment before heading home herself. All in all we walked nearly 12 miles.

How he proposed...
Chris, having moved to London in January, was coming home for Easter but when he arrived at Heathrow they told him his flight was canceled. He pleaded "You can't cancel my flight! I'm proposing to my girlfriend when I land!" This argument didn't seem to sway them but he got on a flight that arrived in the early evening all the same. On our way to dinner with Carolyn's family Chris suggested that we stop off in Harvard Square and go for a short walk. We walked down by the river and came to a stop halfway across the Weeks footbridge. With the sun setting in the background Chris turned to Carolyn and said, "You've given me the best 14 months of my life. I know I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. "Carolyn Sprague Adams, will you marry me?" Carolyn said yes twice and he got up and said "Wait, did you say yes?"
